TREATMENT OF UNSIGHTLY OR UNCOMFORTABLE VEINS (Continued)

Lasers occasionally have been used to vaporise blood vessels but when treating leg veins, they can cause scars on the skin as well as pigment changes, and the veins often return months or years after the treatment. Some veins are so small that laser is the only option. These veins usually only cause problems or cosmetic displeasure when in large groups.

Various types of devices using electric current transmitted through electrodes or needles have also been used. Electric current application destroys only a very small portion of the vessel and causes scarring, so it is impractical on leg vessels which pass deeper beneath the skin.
Surgically tying off the veins (ligation), or pulling them out (stripping) are other procedures for handling dilated blood vessels, but are usually reserved for large varicose veins where the ultrasound scan indicates major superficial vein abnormalities.

In summary, all sizes of varicose and spider veins in all locations may be treated successfully with Injection Sclerotherapy at Keturah Cosmetic Medical Clinic, and a treatment plan for each patient will be constructed after a consultation and vascular investigations.
